In this compilation from the Paul Stanley episode of Gibson TV’s The Collection, Mark Agnesi takes a closer look at five incredible Les Paul™ guitars from the KISS frontman’s collection, from early Gibson Custom reissues to an original 1959 Les Paul Standard.

Paul starts with a 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue from 1994, a guitar he describes as coming from a “golden year” for Les Pauls. It became one of his main studio guitars for KISS and has appeared on multiple recordings and albums.

Next is another 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue from 1994. Paul explains why he considers the ’94 guitars particularly special, praising both their looks and recorded sound. Like the first guitar, it was refined to get even closer to the feel and appearance of an original 1959 Les Paul, and both guitars became trusted studio instruments because of their consistent sound.
Paul then brings out a 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue from 1979, when Gibson started recreating vintage-style Les Paul guitars. Originally supplied with a blonde top, Paul sent the guitar to Strings and Things in Memphis to have the finish changed. He and Mark point out some of the unusual body shapes, top carve, and construction details that show just how far the Gibson vintage reissues have developed and how the Gibson Custom Shop has evolved.

We also get a closer look at Paul’s 1952 Gibson Les Paul—a 1957 Goldtop conversion that has become one of the standout guitars in his collection. Originally built as a 1952 Goldtop with P-90 pickups and a trapeze tailpiece, the guitar was converted to 1957-style specifications with a Stop Bar tailpiece, humbuckers™, and original Patent Applied For pickups. Paul describes it as a fantastic, throaty-sounding guitar and explains why he prefers the warmth, versatility, and power of a great humbucker.

Finally, Paul reveals his prized 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. The guitar had previously been fitted with a Bigsby®, had been re-necked, and was later refinished to Paul’s preferred look. After owning several original Bursts over the years, this is the 1959 Les Paul he chose to keep and play.

If you love KISS, Paul Stanley, vintage Gibson guitars, and rare Les Pauls, this compilation from The Collection is one you don’t want to miss.
