How this Les Paul Goldtop became one of Paul Stanley's favorite guitars

In this exclusive clip from The Collection, KISS guitarist, singer, and songwriter Paul Stanley is with Gibson TV’s Mark Agnesi at the KISS warehouse to take a closer look at an incredible 1952 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop that Paul had converted. Originally built in 1952 as a Goldtop with a trapeze tailpiece and P-90 pickups, the guitar was later converted to have a Stop Bar tailpiece setup and fitted with humbuckers™—effectively transforming it into a 1957-style Les Paul.

Paul explains that the guitar was an unexpected gift from his friend J.R. in Buenos Aires, after Stanley played the instrument in J.R.’s studio while touring South America. Watch as he talks about how this particular guitar has a “throaty tone” and a beautifully carved top, making it one of the most memorable guitars in Stanley’s collection.

During the conversation, Paul also shares why he tends to prefer humbuckers over P-90 pickups, citing their quieter operation and the classic look that defined many of the players who inspired him.
