Kirk Hammett, Jason Isbell & Mike Campbell show off their favorite P-90 guitars in this compilation clip taken from episodes of The Collection.

What makes the P-90 pickup such a staple for legendary guitarists? In this exclusive clip from The Collection on Gibson TV, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Jason Isbell, and Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) show Mark Agnesi their favorite P-90-powered guitars from their private guitar collections.

Kirk Hammett takes us inside his 1960 Gibson Les Paul™ TV Special, complete with flat neck, original binding, and a mysterious bridge modification, possibly by reggae icon Peter Tosh. “To me, it’s original to the guitar… I really like the double cutaway specials,” says Hammett.

Jason Isbell shares the secret weapon behind many of his studio tracks: a 1953 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop with a neck P-90. He adds, “I play this guitar a lot… when I want something that sounds like it is impossible to completely control.”

Mike Campbell introduces his rare 1965 Gibson Firebird™ III loaded with cream P-90 pickups which is particularly unique. A fiery tone machine he found and never let go of. “Most of the Firebirds have the little baby humbuckers… this one’s got the P-90s in it and it’s really loud, great sounding.”

These are more than guitars, they're tone tools with attitude, unpredictability, and soul. Discover why the P-90 remains a go-to for guitar heroes across genres.
