In this clip from Gibson TV’s Icons, Jerry Cantrell talks about the time he first met Eddie Van Halen, and how it felt to have one of the most iconic guitar players of all time standing side-stage watching Alice In Chains perform—just minutes before Jerry was about to open for Van Halen. What followed was one of the most nerve-wracking performances of Jerry’s life, but also the beginning of a lifelong friendship between two guitar heroes.

Watch as Jerry recalls their time on tour together, late-night guitar sessions playing “Name That Riff,” and the time Eddie filled his garage with gear—including two full amplifier stacks and two signature Eddie Van Halen guitars. Jerry also tells the unbelievable story of how one of those guitars went missing during the Degradation Trip sessions and, nearly two decades later, how two separate collectors helped track it down and return it to him.

This is a rare and personal look at the friendship between two of the most iconic players in rock, with some pretty cool stories thrown in.

Whether you’re a die-hard Van Halen fan, love Alice in Chains, or just love cool guitar stories, you’ll love this clip about Jerry Cantrell’s friendship with Eddie Van Halen and the tale of two stolen guitars.
