Ever wondered what happens when one of punk’s most influential bands strips it all back? In this exclusive acoustic session for The Songbook on Gibson TV, members from AFI deliver a stunning reimagining of “Aurelia,” performed acoustically and exclusively for Gibson TV.

Formed in 1991, AFI has built a legacy through evolution—from their early punk roots to the brooding, cinematic soundscapes of their later work. With eleven studio albums, ten EPs, one live album and one DVD under their belt, the band first reached substantial commercial success with their fifth album, The Art of Drowning (2000), which peaked at number 174 on the Billboard 200. They then fully broke into the mainstream with their sixth album, Sing the Sorrow (2003), which peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for 51 weeks.

In this episode, frontman Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget perform “Aurelia,” a highlight from their 2017 album AFI (The Blood Album). Jade performs on a Gibson Hummingbird™ acoustic, bringing a new texture and emotional resonance to the track, while Davey’s unique and instantly recognisable vocal performance strips the song to its emotional core.

The Songbook is a Gibson TV Original Series where artists rework their songs in an intimate acoustic format. These sessions reveal new emotional layers and showcase the pure artistry of songwriting, one stripped-back performance at a time.
