We recently visited the Pasadena, CA headquarters of AEA, makers of classic ribbon microphones and ribbon mic preamps. While there we sat down for a chat with AEA's founder, Wes Dooley.

Wes shared stories of the early years of AEA, including a pivotal trip to New Jersey to meet RCA's chief microphone designer, following RCA's formal exit from the pro audio business in 1976.

With many decades of experience, Wes and his collaborators have built up an incredible wealth of knowledge about ribbon microphone design. This breadth of knowledge, as well as an incredible attention to detail, is fully on display in AEA's incredible line of ribbon microphones and microphone preamps, including the A440, R84A and R44CE microphones.
