Why I Switched From the Kemper to the Quad Cortex for Travel

I left the Kemper for the Quad Cortex — not because one is better, but because of how I use it on the road. Here's the travel rig that fits under an airplane seat, and how I have my four tones and four pedals set up.

The problem with the Kemper was mine, not the Kemper's: I got obsessed with hunting for the one perfect profile and stopped practicing. The Neural DSP Quad Cortex was a deliberate move away from that. I run it in hybrid mode — top four switches are my tones (clean, crunch, heavy, lead), bottom row is pedals: a Tube Screamer, a subtle always-on delay, a bigger lead delay, and one delay set up only for "Heaven and Hell." All four tones come from the same capture at different gain settings. Simpler is the point.

This is not a replacement for a real amp. But it's 2026, and a tube amp isn't always an option.
