In this clip from The Scene, Gibson TV host Mark Agnesi sits down with GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Dave Cobb inside RCA Studio A to explore how a small block in Nashville helped define modern music.

As Dave explains, the Nashville sound wasn’t just created in one room, but came from a network of legendary studios, including RCA Studio A, RCA Studio B, the Quonset Hut Studio, and Bradley’s Barn. With the same group of players moving from session to session, a new sound began to take shape, and a sound that pushed country music beyond its regional roots and onto the global pop charts.
The Nashville sound is often characterized by lush arrangements, string sections, and layered vocals, and it blurred the lines between country, pop, and rock, opening up artists to new demographics, as there was something for everyone.

Dave talks about how Nashville also played a key role in the birth of rock ’n’ roll, pointing to Elvis Presley recording more than 260 hit songs nearby, with the recording of “Heartbreak Hotel” in Nashville as one of the first international rock ’n’ roll hits that helped take the genre worldwide.
But did you know that the RCA Studio A itself nearly got destroyed? Dave also talks about how the building was nearly lost to development before the Nashville music community came together to save it, ensuring that this historic space continues to inspire artists today.
