There's a trick I learned a long time ago for switching between minor and major pentatonic mid-solo — and once you see it, it shows up everywhere in blues and rock and roll.
I use "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC as the example. The song is in the key of G, built on G, C, and D — a I-IV-V progression made entirely of major chords. Logic says you'd solo in G major. Rock and roll says otherwise: you play minor pentatonic instead, which is exactly what Angus Young does for most of that solo — until a specific moment where he shifts into major.
That shift happens on a simple move: slide up a whole step, then slide up a whole step again, and you land in major pentatonic territory. I break down where that slide happens in Angus Young's solo, then show how the same two-slide idea works in any key, using the BB King box as the jumping-off point.
The real goal isn't memorizing this solo note for note — it's having this
shift available as a tool any time your chord progression is major but you want that rock and roll edge that minor pentatonic gives you.
