Over the last year I have had the tremendous opportunity to teach young men and women from all over the world; Haiti, Ethiopia, China, and Lebanon. We meet each monday after school at South Philly High, and learn a wide range of guitar techniques and have a ton of fun doing it. The opportunity for these students to receive free quality guitar lessons in philadelphia was made possible by the Asian Arts Initiative, a non-profit organization that provides incredible youth workshops across the city. Its been amazing getting to know these students, and seeing their progress each week. In this video, the kids perform the Ben E. King classic "stand by me". Its amazing how far they have come to spite language barriers and tough times. One thing I can definitely take from this experience is that music really does bring people together.
