Check out the full video now on Gibson TV to learn more about the fascinating history of the Orphanage Burst—a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard with a story like no other. Irish guitarist Joe Staunton, a left-handed blues-rock powerhouse, bought this guitar in 1969 and held onto it for over 50 years, never letting it pass into the hands of collectors. Staunton played alongside Thin Lizzy legends Phil Lynott and Brian Downey in the band Orphanage, shaping this right-handed Les Paul with his distinctive left-handed playing style which resulted in some very unique markings and scratches.

The result? A flametop with wear patterns as unique as the man who played it—a testament to Staunton’s passionate playing style and technique of holding the guitar and his impact on Dublin’s vibrant music scene of the 1970s. Don’t miss this incredible story, including its restoration and new home at Gibson’s headquarters in Nashville, introduced by Gibson’s President and CEO, Cesar Gueikian.
