Impressions is a famous tune by John Coltrane. What’s interesting about the tune is there are only two chords. Sometimes this can be just as hard to write or improvise over as if there were one hundred chords in the song. Let’s write a melody using a compositional device called rhythmic displacement. A super handy device that keeps the listener engaged.
