welcome back to Swift Guitar Lessons! In today’s session we’re diving into a complete bluegrass-style flatpicking solo in the key of G. This lesson is designed to help you expand your lead playing by combining classic bluegrass lead vocabulary and rhythm techniques.

We’ll begin by reviewing the 1–4–5 chord progression in the key of G (G–C–D)—a foundational progression used in countless bluegrass, country, and folk tunes. From there, I’ll introduce you to a few essential positions of the major blues scale, showing you how these shapes can be used to create expressive, authentic-sounding flatpicking lines.

Once the groundwork is set, we’ll break down a full solo made up of 6 classic bluegrass licks, each demonstrated slowly and then brought back up to full tempo and placed back into context. By the end of this lesson, you’ll have a collection of versatile licks that you can mix, match, and use in your own jams.
