Here's a fun blues lick that combines major and minor pentatonic in the same phrase — played in the key of A to keep things simple.

The shape starts on frets 5, 7, and 8 across the first and second strings. The trick is that the 5 stays put while the 7 and 8 shift up one fret at a time, creating a moving three-note pattern you can repeat as many times as you want before shifting again. Add a pull-off at the end and it becomes a four-note sequence instead — both work, and which one you use is really just a feel choice.

I also break down the picking side, which is what actually makes this lick sound clean: instead of picking each note separately, you push through both strings almost like strumming a chord, using your index finger to mute the second string the instant you leave it.

At the end I play it over a jam track so you can hear how a group of three notes sounds layered over a straight four-beat rhythm — that little rhythmic clash is what makes the lick interesting to a listener's ear.
