'From The Factory Floor’ takes you on a deep dive into select processes around the PRS factory. In this episode, we explore a process we refer to as “turnaround.” This term is derived from the PRS protocol of turning guitars around on the rack after their finish has been meticulously inspected and approved for the next stage of production. Our finish inspectors rely on specialized lighting and lots of training to identify and repair even the smallest imperfections.

This process is narrated by Topcoat Production Manager Josh Davis. Enjoy a view “From the Factory Floor” as our turnaround team ensures a quality finish on every PRS.
“All guitarists have a sound in their head – a sound that evolves and grows as they progress, discovering all of the beautiful idiosyncrasies that define their individual voice. To facilitate this process, players need a vibrant, dynamic guitar that becomes a free space in which their personality can unfold. PRS and I designed Fiore (Italian for ‘flower’) to be this guitar.”
By popular demand, he breaks down his signal chain, his mic-ing technique, and his approach to nailing this timeless Hendrix tune.

PRS HDRX amps feature a newly-documented Hendrix Touring Circuit developed by Paul Reed Smith and PRS Amp Designer Doug Sewell. Heavily inspired by one of Hendrix’s personal amps purportedly used at Woodstock, which Paul Reed Smith and Doug Sewell were able to study, PRS HDRX amps bring power and balance. These PRS amps are designed to push the high-end so it is very clear, but not so much that it’s harsh, so the amp shines without glaring and allows for aggression that can be backed off for smooth, sweet tones.

PRS HDRX Amps: The Story Behind the Design | PRS Guitars

PRS HDRX amps bring power and balance. Featuring a newly-documented Hendrix Touring Circuit, the PRS HDRX amp is heavily inspired by one of Hendrix’s personal amps purportedly used at Woodstock, which Paul Reed Smith and PRS Amp Designer Doug Sewell were able to study. The PRS HDRX is designed to push the high-end so it is very clear, but not so much that it’s harsh, so the amp shines without glaring and allows for aggression that can be backed off for smooth, sweet tones.

Signal Chain Notes: The signal from the HDRX 100 & 50-watt amp heads (seen in-frame) was sent to mirrored speaker cabinets (out of frame) and close mic'd with a Byer Dynamic M160 on one speaker & a Shure SM7 on another. These close mics are accompanied by one of Paul Smith's custom-built room mics. These mic signals were sent to multiple custom-built RCA tube-driven mic preamps and were recorded through a UA Apollo x8p and ProTools.
